How to Find Us

Falcarragh is situated on a narrow inlet of Ballyness Bay. The town has a beautiful setting and is also within easy reach of some of Donegal's most spectacular scenery. With the peaks of Errigal rising up on the south and Muckish Mountain to the south east, Falcarragh is a good point from which to attempt the ascents. There are a number of islands lying off Ballyness Bay. The largest of these is Tory Island (Toraigh), 9 miles from the mainland. Tory can be visited by ferry which runs daily in the summer from Magheraroarty Pier.

Falcarragh (An Fál Carrach in Irish also known as Na Croisbhealaí or Crossroads) lies within the parish of Cloughaneely (Cloch Cheann Fhaola) in County Donegal. The parish gets its name from a story which forms part of the Mythological Cycle of Irish sagas. According to legend, Balor Bhéiminn, Balor of the Evil Eye, decapitated a local chieftain named Fionn Mac Ceann Fhaola, on a stone. The stone is now in Baile Chonaill in Fál Carrach. Falcarragh is now known for much happier reasons including being located amongst the spectacular scenery of North West Donegal and, of course, for the fun of its annual festival.
